About the team
Works Programme is a key group within the core operational groups here at WEL. As a group we always aim to deliver work within targeted times, meeting and exceeding customer expectations, with a workforce model which is capable, scalable, and adaptable to shifting demands and requirements. These goals are being challenged through a significant and positive change in the growth of Hamilton City and Waikato. Works Programme have reviewed the team and to continue to deliver expertly, alongside our great existing team of people, we have created a number of new opportunities.
About the role
As a Design Planner/Estimator, you will join our Works Programme Group to support the reliable, efficient and safe operation of our distribution network by providing specialised technical advice, structured planning and estimation support for the construction and maintenance of our network assets.
Combining the technical planning and distribution design skills, this role will deliver detailed planning and cost estimation for WEL’s Infrastructure in the annual programme of work. You will offer technical guidance and support internally as well as liaising and engaging with a variety of other stakeholders.
Responsibilities could include the detailed planning of:
Asset Replacement and Network Development projects,
Regular maintenance and repairs to transformers, RMU and circuit breakers,
Network switching permits and customer outage notifications for planned works,
Customer impact assessments and coordination for distribution equipment outages for maintenance and testing.
Skills and experience
An appropriate technical qualification that is supported by practical experience – electrical trade qualification (Electrician, Technician, Line Mechanic/Live Line Mechanic), NZCE equivalent, or equivalent experience
Five years’ experience in the distribution network environment – knowledge of the WEL distribution network would be an advantage
A proven commitment to safety in your work
Advanced knowledge in Safety in Design and delivery principles for distribution networks.
