About the role
As a Design Planner/Estimator, you will join our Network Portfolio team to support the reliable, efficient and safe operation of our distribution network by providing structured planning and estimation support for the maintenance of our network assets, and specialised technical advice and assistance with asset renewal activities.
Combining the technical planning and distribution design skills, this role will deliver detailed planning and cost estimation for WEL’s Infrastructure in the annual programme of work. You will offer technical guidance and support internally as well as liaising and engaging with a variety of other stakeholders.
Responsibilities could include the detailed planning of:
- Regular maintenance and repairs to transformers, RMU’s, circuit breakers, earthing systems, and HV cables,
- Network switching permits and customer outage notifications for planned works,
- Customer impact assessments and coordination for distribution equipment outages for maintenance and testing,
- Asset replacement and network development projects.
What you’ll bring
- An appropriate technical qualification that is supported by practical experience – electrical trade qualification (Line Mechanic/Electrical Fitter/Technician), NZCE equivalent, or equivalent experience
- Three years’ experience in the distribution network environment – knowledge of the WEL distribution network would be an advantage
- A proven commitment to safety in your work
- Knowledge of Safety in Design and delivery principles for distribution networks
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and general computer literacy
